In this month’s episode, we chat with award-winning painter Susanna Bluhm. Susanna talks with us about her life and art, including the unique and very personal way that a love of place underlies her artwork.
Susanna received her BA from Cal State Humboldt and her MFA from the University of Illinois. She’s been an Artist-in-Residence at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin and at the Karl Hofer Gesellschaft in Berlin; she also won the 2014 recipient of the Neddy Artist Award in Painting. Bluhm lives with her wife and ten-year-old son in Seattle. For more info, visit her website here.
In the second half of the podcast, we talk in detail about Susanna’s current Red Country Project. Begun in the wake of the 2016 election, her Red Country Project entails visits to predominantly red states, conversations and notes and blog posts, and a subsequent series of paintings. To find out more about the project, here’s a link.
Susanna has also launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund and support the project. Find it here.
